Why this site exists

Most people use products made from castings every day, yet very few have ever seen how they are made. This is the story of a 21 year old documenting a 50 year old foundry from the inside, and building the next chapter of Indian manufacturing.

My job is not to protect what my family built. It is to take it somewhere new, without losing what made it last.

About Swayam J. Shah

Global perspective. Cast in Anand.

Swayam J. Shah, also known as Swayam Shah, is a third generation entrepreneur leading Fine Cast Group, a cast iron foundry his family founded in Anand, Gujarat in 1973. What began as a single foundry now spans two foundries and two machine shops, producing grey iron, ductile iron and SG iron castings for demanding industrial customers across India and abroad.

He read Business Administration and Management at the University of Greenwich in London, where he did not only study business, he practised it. As a course Student Representative he advocated for his peers. He rose from Secretary to President of the University of Greenwich Hindu Society, and served two years as Secretary of the Indian Society of Greenwich, organising Diwali and Navratri celebrations for more than 300 students at a time.

Today, as CEO of Fine Cast (Gujarat) Pvt. Ltd., he works at the intersection of foundry operations, cost discipline and modern brand building, modernising a heritage cast iron business while honouring the standards that earned it five decades of trust.

Three generations. One foundry.

From its founding in 1973 to today, Fine Cast has been built and carried forward by one family across three generations of casters.

What started as a single cast iron foundry in the early days of the Anand GIDC became an industrial group woven so deeply into the area that a nearby crossing is still known locally as Finecast Chokdi. Swayam J. Shah represents the third generation. Educated abroad, grounded at home, and intent on carrying the Fine Cast name forward as a benchmark in Indian castings.

On Indian Castings & Manufacturing

Why the foundry floor still matters.

India is one of the largest casting producing nations in the world, and Gujarat sits at the heart of it. Every gearbox, pump, compressor and earth moving machine begins as molten metal poured into a mould. Castings are the quiet foundation of how things get built.

Swayam J. Shah believes the cast iron and ductile iron foundry industry is one of India's most underrated engines of manufacturing, and one of its least documented. Behind every casting is a craft passed down on the shop floor, a discipline of metallurgy, sand, heat and timing that machines alone cannot replace. As a third generation caster, his mission is to bring that world forward, to show that a fifty year old foundry can be run with modern operations, transparent costing and a brand worth talking about.
